Le « broadcast wall » de Beishan se situe sur l’ile de Kinmen à Taiwan. Il a été bâti sur la falaise de Beishan, faisant face à la mer, à plus de 6.4 km du continent chinois. Cette structure en béton de 3 étages, contient 48 haut-parleurs. Elle était utilisée pour diffuser des messages de propagande entre Taiwan et la Chine jusqu’à la fin des années 70. Le Beishan broadcast wall est aujourd’hui considéré à la fois comme un monument commémoratif et comme le plus grand haut-parleur jamais construit.
En aout 2018, un groupe de 5 artistes taiwanais et internationaux, invités par Augustin Maurs et Ada Kai-Ting Yang, vont réactivé ces haut-parleurs et réinventé le Beishan broadcast wall. Leur travail sera rediffusé en février 2019 dans le cadre d’artgenève.
« While standing on a frontier, the broadcast wall also abolishes it. Sound blurs boundaries and reaffirms the porosity of space. During this investigation, the loudspeaker construction will become a twofold instrument where outer and inner voices cross, and where artist voices merge with the voices of local participants. The artistic results of the initiative will be shown on-site at the Beishan loudspeaker wall in Kinmen during a “concert-exhibition” event. »
